« Le peintre n’a plus besoin de souscrire à l’idée que le « tout » est une vérité ou une loi universelle. L’« à-propos » que Greenberg a inventé et défini comme un moyen d’expérimenter cet aspect phénoménologique et philosophique de la peinture abstraite peut maintenant être réinterprété pour présenter une réalité différente basée sur nos pensées actuelles concernant la façon dont nous voyons et pensons à nous-mêmes. Ce que nous pouvons prendre en compte, c’est la façon dont la notion de temps et d’espace a changé et la peinture abstraite n’est pas une négation de la représentation. »
Kaneda a continuellement exploré les possibilités de la peinture abstraite de manière provocatrice de pensée, juxtaposant une grande variété de modes de peinture qui ouvrent des possibilités à diverses interprétations. Elle a constamment tenté de changer les termes de la peinture abstraite en questionnant et en contestant les pratiques d’exclusion qui conduisent à l’effondrement entropique du modernisme.
Kaneda utilise habilement ces motifs de damier avec des cercles, des modèles curvilignes et des formes biomorphiques pour confondre et maintenir un espace changeant où les placements et les relations entre ces éléments semblent être variables et interchangeables, ce qui entraîne un espace instable où il n’y a pas de « dernier » espace ou arrière-plan.
