Press release

Galerie Richard presents the second solo exhibition in Paris of Joeggu Hossmann’s paintings entitled Dreams are Elastic from January 27 to February 24, 2024.
Born in 1978 in Switzerland, Joeggu Hossmann explains our digital age with the web as an aesthetic reference and GAFA as instruments of their visual standardization. He established his reputation by transcribing pictorial material found on the Internet into traditional oil paintings, thus presenting the collective visual memory of the virtual world. Poour as much as they do not lock themselves into a dogma and he recognizes that he likes to photograph landscapes and people himself, while manipulating his own images to give them a digital aesthetic of his own.

Each painting is meticulously executed by the artist with color zones corresponding to a pixelated screen image. The artist reproduces areas of color cut out like lace, different at the same time from cutouts in squares by pixels and curves similar to those of topographic maps.

Landscapes around the world have always been a major theme in his creations. He continues his search for images on the internet but he is also a globetrotting photographer who travels the world in search of moments or scenes with universal reach. It varies considerably the framing, aerial views, panoramic views, details… Some figurative paintings can be read abstractly as the shapes and colors are perfectly composed. The shades of the sky are always subtly degraded. There is sometimes a feeling of solitude in its large landscapes of nature or large cities. The pale colors of brown-beige, gray-blue dominate inspiring a soothing contemplation.

While the exhibition focuses on landscape paintings, there are also paintings of music and film stars and google word selections of images. With Joeggu Hossmann, painting absorbs the digital media that are the visual landmarks of his time.

Joeggu Hossmann exhibits regularly in Zürich (Switzerland), Manheim (Germany) and Kierland (Arizona) and Philadelphia (Pennsylvania).
He has exhibited in Swiss art centers such as Steffisburg, Le Noirmont and the Musée des Arts de Moutier.
