Press release
Jean-Luc and Takako Richard are pleased to present the Summer Painting Show on their entire exhibition space from July 4 to 30, 2022. The exhibition includes paintings by Chris Finley, Dan Hays, Joeggu Hossmann, Rainer Gross, Laurence Papouin, Rémy Hysbergue and Gilles Teboul. It testifies to the artists’ appropriation of digital aesthetics and/or creative software.
In the early 1990s and since then, Chris Finley has been producing a perfectly smooth paint suggesting the screens he composes by manipulating images with digital creation software. His new series of portraits of San Francisco Bay real estate agents denounces the social effects of rising housing prices in his region.
Chris Finley was born in Carmel in 1971 and lives in Petaluna, CA. His works were included in the Post- Digital Painting exhibition at the Cranbrook Art Museum in Bloomsfield Hills in 2002 MI; 01.01.01: Art in Technological Times, San Francisco Museum of Art in 2002… His works are in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, New York, Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, CA; San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, San Francisco…
Rainer Gross superimposes six to seven layers of pigments of different colors suspended in water on a canvas. Then, he applies a coat of paint on another canvas of the same size, pressing the two canvases together and letting them «harden». It separates them revealing the parts of the surface that have adhered to each other. If the artist conceives the general composition, the details that reveal themselves are unpredictable. Gross hangs the double picture upside down, escaping the obvious symmetries.
Rainer Gross was born in Cologne in 1951. He lives in Cutchoque (NY) and Cologne. He exhibits at Galerie Richard (formerly Galerie OZ) since 1992. Solo travelling exhibition entitled «Doppelgänger, Contact paintings, Singles and Twins 1996-2003»: Leopold-Hoesch Museum, Düren, Städtische Galerie Villa Zanders, Bergisch Gladbach, Museum Mulheim an der Ruhr, Städtische Galerie im Park, Viersen, Frankfürter Kunstkabinett Hanna Bekker Vom Rath, Frankfurt am Main. Group exhibition in 2014 at the China Art Museum, Shanghai; in 2017 at the Beijing Biennale China Art Museum, at the Museum, Villa Zanders Bergisch.
Since 1999 Dan Hays paints landscapes from images found on the internet. He recomposes and decomposes them in pixels, circles, horizontal, vertical, diagonal lines, often in RGB colors, painted in oil with great attention to detail.
Dan Hays was born in London in 1966 and resides there. He exhibited with Chris Finley and other gallery artists in the Post Digital Painting exhibition at the Cranbrook Art Museum in 2002-2003. He was represented by Galerie Zürcher in France from 1999 to 2004. His works were exhibited in 2021 and 2022 at the double exhibition Painting: Obsolescence Deprogrammed at the Musée des Sables d’Olonne and the Musée de l’Hospice Saint-Roch in Issoudun. His works are in the collections of the Tate Gallery, Arts Council Collection, Southamton City Gallery, Walker Art Gallery, Saatchi Collection, HSBC, Royal Bank of Scotland, Victoria & Albert Museum…

Joeggu Hossmann explains our digital age with the web as an aesthetic reference and GAFA as instruments of their visual standardization. He transcribes the pictorial material found on the Internet into traditional oil paintings by defining areas of cut-out colors such as lace, different from both square- pixel cutouts and curvatures of topographical maps. It thus presents the collective visual memory of the virtual world.
Born in Switzerland in 1978, Joeggu Hossmann exhibits regularly in Switzerland in Zürich, Germany in Manheim and the United States in Kierland, Arizona and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He exhibited in the art centers of Switzerland in Steffisburg, Le Noirmont, the Museum of Arts of Moutier.
Thick blocks of acrylic in three dimensions, deposits of light traces of large brushes and their superpositions, airbrush with which he brings light and an impression of relief all fictitious, Rémy Hysbergue multiplies the techniques of painting (Rémy Hysbergue likes to say that he paints the painting) with an unparalleled dexterity to offer a strong visual pleasure to the people who face his works.
Rémy Hysbergue has just participated in the collective exhibition entitled «Painting: deprogrammed obsolescence» at the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Les Sables d’Olonne from October 17 to January 16, 2022 and his paintings will be presented on the exhibition entitled “Painting: deprogrammed obsolescence – Free licenses” at the Saint-Roch Hospice Museum in Issoudun from February 11 to May 8, 2022.
In the line of Linda Besemer, Laurence Papouin is the first painter in France to have dared to make the painting material independent of its chassis. She continues her work of expanding paint material on works on paper, giving a second life to debris of paint on paper.
Laurence Papouin was born in 1974 and lives and works in Paris. She exhibits at the gallery since 2011. She participated
November in Vitry 50, 1969-2019 at the Jean Collet Municipal Gallery in Vitry sur Seine; Painting moves to the Rosa Bonheur Contemporary Art Centre in Chevilly Larue in 2017; in 2015 Vitry winners at the MAC Créteil; in 2014, Regards sur l’abstraction, Galerie Le Corbusier, Trappes, Yvelines; 2013 On the wrong slope, New waves Palais de Tokyo…
The subject of Gilles Teboul’s painting has always been the representation of light in space.
His painting is distinguished both by the immateriality of the resin applied without trace of the hand and by its reflexivity that refers to an outside space. Gilles Teboul has been putting the painter’s gesture at a distance for the past 20 years, notably by reflecting on letting go within the process.
Gilles Teboul was born in Paris in 1961 and resides there. He recently presented his work at the Art in the Chapels in Pontivy, at 5UN7 in Bordeaux, and at the Centre d’Art Contemporain Chanot-Clamart. Her works are regularly presented at the Nancy Toomey Gallery in San Francisco. He has participated in many international fairs including Volta 13 Basel-Switzerland with the Bruno Massa Gallery (solo show), L.A Art Fair-Los Angeles (solo show), Context New York, Kiaf Arts Seoul, Tokyo Art Fair.
Thomas Zitzwitz is internationally recognized as the Master of Pistol Painting. The process of Spray Paintings can be characterized by a directed chance, since the result of this process is only visible when the canvas becomes a flat surface mounted on chassis. His paintings are distinguished by their three- dimensional sweetness and illusionism.
