Christophe AVELLA-BAGUR - Hyper Painting
Press release
« Because painting is understood to be an ‘object’ of global culture and part of the history of all civilizations, it cannot be simply an artistic medium or a passing trend. Painting has a culture and a future. Hyper Painting is not the over-inflation of an act, of a medium, like a supernova about to explode ; on the contrary, ‘Hyper Painting’ is the complete and liberated work of a renewed medium in which time is mixed : past, present, and future. ‘Hyper Painting’ is an entire culture that makes new sense.
In this short pamphlet, Christophe Avella-Bagur shows us the importance of reviving contemporary painting. It is clear that, for the artist, the answer to this artistic and intellectual debate cannot be found by renouncing the intrinsic properties of painting. Trying to make a painting more seductive by adding garish materials, for example, or other tricks artists know well, does not save painting but instead reduces it to the same superficiality and visual mediocrity that is all around us. Christophe Avella-Bagur’s paintings are a declaration of the 21st century human being’s weakness, of the great questions he must answer and the great challenges he must face. His work is not anecdotal, caricatured, or explicit because it does not stem from thoughts that have been reduced or mutilated by the advertising industry. His work is the epitome of a painter’s language.
