Press release

Rémy HYSBERGUE                 Freeze Frames              October 28 – December 9, 2023

Galerie Richard presents the fourth solo exhibition by Rémy Hysbergue entitled “Stops on Images”, new acrylic paintings on velvet from October 28 to December 9, 2023. The title may suggest that the artist definitely fixes a moment in a process which has been in constant flow with drips, streaks, airbrush spots…

The new paintings are characterized by the use of a wide range of colors that Rémy Hysbergue magnifies by assembling them. They are really multicolored paintings, each with a distinct background color. He also enlarges the size of his paintings with seven different sizes of canvases.

All new works have a vertical composition often punctuated with horizontal or diagonal shapes. It is a mature work of a painter who plays with dexterity the multiple possibilities of application of acrylic on canvas and the infinite freedoms of representation of spaces in painting.

Thick blocks of acrylic in three dimensions, deposits of light traces of large brushtrokes and their superpositions, aibrush with which he brings light and a fictional impression of relief, Rémy Hysbergue multiplies painting techniques (Rémy Hysbergue likes to say that he paints the painting)

With unparalleled dexterity to deliver a strong visual pleasure to people who face his paintings.

Rémy Hysbergue does not let himself be trapped in any system. Also just in an all-over painting as in a sober painting with three brushstrokes, he is just as comfortable with a monochrome painting as one with a wide range of colors, including neon colors mixed  with classic colors. His refined paintings reach a maturity and for this they express and share his true pleasure of mastering the poossibilities of expression of his medium.

Rémy Hysbergue’s artworks are in the collections of the Fonds National d’Art Contemporain, Paris, FRAC Auvergne, Frac Poitou-Charentes, Musée des Beaux-Arts d’Angers,  Ohara Museum, Japan.

Rémy Hysbergue participated in the collective exhibition’’Painting: Deprogrammed Obsolescence” at  Musée d’Art Moderne et Contemporain in Sables d’Olonnes in 2021 and in Musée de l’Hospice Saint-Roch in Issoudun in 2022. In April – May 2023 he had a large solo exhibition at the Haus der Kunst St.Josef in Solothurn in Switzerland.
