“The Factory of the Real”

The title suggests that the artist emphasizes the materiality of his paintings with the textures of sewn canvas. He superimposes spaces by perforating the canvas and layering them. He adds spaces of reflected light from colored paint to the outline of the circle on the back of the canvas. Then there are the wooden “implants” inserted into sewn canvas pockets.

Born in 1972, Sven-Ole FRAHM lives in Berlin. He graduated from the Düsseldorf Art Academy in 2001. He was awarded the prestigious Villa Romana Prize in Florence in 2001, and the Bergischer Kunst Prize for painting at the Museum of Modern Art in Solingen in 2006. His works are in the collections of Société Générale. He regularly exhibits in the major cultural capitals of Europe and in New York.
